Nehemiah 3:5 says “The next section was repaired by the men of Tekoa, but their nobles would not put their shoulders to the work.”
Chapter 3 in the book of Nehemiah mainly talks about the builders of the wall around Jerusalem. Given the circumstances and opposition, this almost impossible job of wall construction was mainly done with the help of Priests and Nobles and other leaders of the society under Nehemiah’s guidance.
But for this group of men from Tekoa, the folks who were supposed to take the leadership, folks who were supposed to steer the project did not support the work and refused to help them. But this did not stop the men of Tekoa from building the wall, from doing their part, from taking the step to fulfill what God has initiated in them through Nehemiah.
May be you are at a point in your life where you don’t feel like moving forward. Given the circumstances may be you are wondering how to move forward. Maybe the folks who are supposed to be encouraging you are not with you today. Don’t let the “nobles” in your life stop you from moving forward or taking that next step of faith. Don’t let them deter you from fulfilling His calling upon your life. Don’t let the discouragement quench the fire that He has started in your spirit!
For Tekoites, they decided to do the right thing regardless of who were with them. They did not wait for human voices to give them the confirmation and encouragement to do the right thing.
Where are you standing today with His kingdom construction? Are you waiting for a green signal from those “nobles” in your life? Don’t let the “nobles” to overwrite what the spirit has shown you clearly. Don’t wait for human approvals to get His will done!
The men of Tekoa did not use that as an excuse for discouragement. In fact, verse 27 of the same chapter says “Next to them the Men of Tekoa repaired another section” They are in fact the only group in the whole chapter who helped in the construction of the wall a second time. With the little or no support they received from their Nobles to build their part of the wall, you would think they will be the last one’s helping someone else. It looks like what was supposed to be a discouragement in fact encouraged them to do more of His work!
